Real stories. Real dogs. Real results.
We're proud to train dogs that are easier to live with—and a joy to take into the field. Here’s what some of our clients have shared about their experience with CapeWest R&T.
"We were struggling with our 3-month-old Pyredoodle and, after being with Heath for 6 weeks, he comes to us when we call him, can walk with a leash, goes to his crate immediately when we tell him to and generally just listens to us now!! We are so thankful."
Jodi Robinson
Owner of Cash
"Maggie is a rescue and went to Heath when she was 9 months old. She was very antsy, skittish, and couldn’t control herself around food. In a matter of 3 months, Heath was able to fix all of these things... It's Maggie’s first day back home, and we can already see so many changes in her. We would 100% recommend Heath Speck at CapeWest for training."
Ella Canfield
Owner of Maggie
"Want an obedient and willing dog? Check out CapeWest R&T! I sent my almost 2-year-old mini-Aussie, Rafa, for a month of obedience training and I couldn't be happier with the results! Every dog is different, Heath adjusts his training according to each one so they thrive."

Why Board & Train Works
Dogs thrive in consistent environments. Our board-and-train model gives your dog structure, repetition, and clear leadership.
Training in our home—rather than in a commercial kennel or class—helps your dog form habits that transfer to your home life.
Training Tools We Use
We train outdoors in real-life settings to build confidence and reliability. Training starts with positive reinforcement—treats, then toys or retrieves as your dog progresses.
We teach dogs to “place” using a place board, helping them learn calm, predictable behavior at home. For leash manners, we may use a prong collar—a gentle, effective tool when used correctly (the process is an artform).
At your request, we can also condition your dog to an e-collar for reliable off-leash response. E-collars are only used to reinforce commands your dog already understands.
What to Bring
Most recent vaccination record (Bordetella vaccine required within 6 months)
Dog food for the entire stay
Flea, tick, and heartworm protection
Please don't bring bedding. We provide kennels, and we can't guarantee personal items will be returned in good condition.
All dogs sleep inside each night. This is our nighttime set-up.
Rain or shine, training continues—Heath works indoors to keep your dog focused and consistent.
Drop Off & Pick-Up Info
Drop-offs: Sundays
Pick-ups: Fridays (on your dog's final week)
This weekend transition gives your dog time to settle back in at home—and gives the CapeWest team a short window for rest before the next training rotation.
Need to extend your dog's stay? Just let us know ahead of time, and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Owner Involvement & Visit Policy
We welcome you to visit your dog while they’re in training! Many clients choose to visit their dog weekly or every other week. It’s a great way to support their transition home.
Please give 24 hours’ notice before arriving. For weekend visits, provide a two-hour window so we can plan time to work with you directly.
What to Expect After Training
Training doesn’t stop when your dog goes home—it continues with you.
We’ll show you how to reinforce what your dog learned using your regular routine:
5–10 minutes, twice a day
5 days a week
During feeding, walks, or even while cooking dinner
The more consistent you are, the longer the results will last. For more tips, daily vocabulary, and helpful routines to support your dog at home, visit our Life After Training page.
