Want a puppy but don't want a puppy? Puppies are undeniably adorable but can also be quite demanding. At CapeWest R&T we specialize in create training, house training, recall training (including name recognition) leave it, and no commands for puppies 2-6 months of age.  This comprehensive training typically takes 4 weeks, after which the puppy returns home to bond with its human family.  Subsequently, the puppy can come back to to CapeWest for additional basic obedience training which covers commands such as sit, which means stay to us, no, leave it, leash training, place training, eating by command, in the crate when was told and address any undesirable behaviors like counter surfing, whining, jealousy and more.   

Why board & train? Dogs learn best when in a consistent environment over a long period of time.  Having our family train the dog with consistent daily commands and tones helps the dog to retain the command & forms good habits.  Dogs are much like humans, have good days; bad days, they have days they don't want to listen and they have perfect days.  Some training days turn into play time because the dog is just being a dog.  Some daily activities like kennel, no, leave it, sit being reinforced by us all day reduces confusion and helps the dog succeed.  We have all age dogs at our house often the dogs learn more from each other than they do humans.  Our older dogs are gentle with the puppies but kindly tell them to give them personal space.  Our year or older pups run each other tired.  Less than a year old pups help to desensitize the older pups in training to loose dogs or other animals.  We keep the dogs in a rotation constantly teaching them patience when it comes to feeding time or outdoor kennel time, we don't put up with any whiners.  Whining is only allowed when you need to use the restroom.  Board & train also allows for the trainer to address any behavioral patterns that a dog may have that isn't exemplary of a well mannered house dog.  

Dog Training Theory:  We train dogs to think on their own.  This allows the dog to use up all their energy on pleasing their humans.  Hand signals along with verbal commands are used to reinforce the command the human is wanting. This is also why our training program requires months of work. We could turn around dogs quicker, but after years of studying dog training theories around the globe we have adopted a style we feel is best for happy dogs and retains the training for years to come when dogs make good choices on their own.  Success of board & traing does rely on the owners frequent visits and learning as the dog does. 

We specialize in training British Labradors. We will train any sporting dog breed, house dog breed for any type of work. We enjoy British lab's calm demeanor, smaller stature & desire to be obedient.  We procure, train & sell British Labs as Started Puppies or Trained dogs.  We will train a dog to an owner's liking & the dog's ability, within your budget.  We do enjoy all sporting dogs & retrievers.  

What is CapeWest? CapeWest is the pet name for our house in Brock, Texas. We are a small business, family owned & operated.  In 2006, a country boy, Heath went to a rodeo where he sat next to a city girl, Caitlin: originally from Boston, MA.  We got married, had an adorable son, Heath Cole Jr.  In 2020, we built a home which needed a name that represented both of us.  Cape Cod is where Caitlin spent her summers & Heath, well, he's a Texan. So CapeWest felt fitting.  We have both indoor & outdoor cozy kennels on our fenced in 2.5 acres in Brock.  We also have 50 acres in Graford, Texas the dogs will go to for training & exercise.
