Purposeful Pairings. Home-Raised Puppies. Capable Companions.
At CapeWest R&T, we breed British Labradors with strong instincts and calm temperaments. Each dog is selected for intelligence, health, and trainability—so their pups thrive at home and in-field.
Whether you want a mellow companion or steady hunting partner, our pups are easy to live with and eager to work. These “wife-approved gundogs” are just as content by the fire as in a duck blind.
At CapeWest R&T, we breed with intention—not volume. Every pairing is carefully selected to produce puppies with strong health, steady and cooperative temperaments, and the kind of eager-to-please personality that allows the dog to thrive in both family life and the field.
Dogs in our program are certified at two years old and must demonstrate confidence, trainability, and a reliable "off" switch.
We breed dogs that have passed hip and elbow evaluations through OFA or BVA and are carefully paired with partners selected to improve the genetic quality of the breed.
We prioritize:
Health clearances and responsible genetics
Temperament suited for family and field
Desire to work, learn, and please
Steady, easy-to-train personalities
We currently have two females, Roxy and Natty, who meet our highest standards and are bred no more than once per year—always based on demand. We raise all litters in our home, where puppies are exposed to everyday sounds and routines, begin whistle training with solid food, and are introduced to potty training using Alpha pellet litter boxes that simulate grass.
From day one, we believe the environment matters just as much as genetics. That’s why we raise every puppy to be a calm, well-mannered companion—right from the start.

A UK Field Trial Champion, Scott brings elite genetics and proven performance to this pairing. Trained and handled in Ireland, Scott is known for his excellent game-finding ability, quiet confidence, and sharp marking skills.
His calm demeanor and natural trainability make him an ideal complement to Natty.
Bred and raised at CapeWest, Natty is the daughter of Roxy and a standout in her own right. She’s calm in the house, focused in the field, and remarkably easy to live with—exactly the kind of dog we strive to produce.
With a steady disposition and a strong desire to please, Natty reflects the best qualities of our companion gundog program.
A UK Field Trial Champion, Diesel brings proven working genetics to the pairing.
His accomplishments include 1st Place in the Derby Stake (2018), A.I.U.G.C. Open, and the Labrador Club of Ireland Open (both in 2020), along with multiple top placements in prestigious, highly competitive Irish trials.
Currently owned by Livingston Gundogs, Diesel is known for his biddability, strong work ethic, drive, and laser-sharp focus.
Originally trained in Ireland, Roxy served as a picking-up dog on shoots before joining the CapeWest pack. Heath discovered her while searching for a starter female for a client—and couldn’t resist bringing her on board.
Roxy is confident, steady, and serious about her work. Her boldness, eagerness to please, and natural intelligence make her a phenomenal house dog, trusted working partner, and exceptional mother.
We're proud to breed dogs that are easier to live with—and a joy to take into the field. Here’s what some of our clients have shared about their experience with CapeWest R&T.
Owner of Reilly
"The Specks are a great family and love dogs. Our 11-week-old puppy, Reilly, is doing amazing. She's clearly from a spectacular bloodline of British Labs."
Owner of Bones
“Bones is the smartest puppy I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing how well he responds to commands like ‘here,’ ‘sit,’ and ‘stay’—especially how he waits to eat until I say, ‘get it.’"
Owner of Sadie
“Sadie is very intelligent, learns quickly, responds to incentives... Great energy for a family dog. She's happy to crash out on the floor when we're home or run all day long when we're at the ranch. Great recall in the field."
"Heath and Caitlin are a wealth of knowledge and are so helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure that the puppy we bought from them is set up for success."
Owner of Pippa
"Our experience with Heath was amazing! He knows each of his puppies and the love, care, and environment that he and Caitlin provide...they genuinely want their puppies to have the best homes with the best people. If you are looking for high-quality Lab puppies, you cannot go wrong with CapeWest."
Owner of Finn
"He's doing really well! No accidents in the kennel and sleeping all night. He's learning to sit and come when called. And he's starting to learn 'leave it.' He's very smart."
